How Does TMS Therapy Work? Lynn MA
The TMS Therapy system uses magnetic pulses to create fast, highly concentrated fields that are the same as those produced by MRI machines. The treatment coil is applied to the head above left prefrontal cortex – which is involved with mood regulation and so it’s the place where these fields will be focused.
These magnetic fields do not reach deep into our brains; they only go about 2-3 centimeters beneath the treatment coil in order to produce very small currents of electricity when they hit there.
What to Expect with TMS Therapy
Our TMS Coordinator will schedule an initial appointment for you to review your medical history and symptoms. From there, our TMS physician will develop a treatment plan in the event that this is the right course of action.
If it is determined that Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation is appropriate for you, we can usually have sessions scheduled soon – generally within weeks of your first call to our office.
